Happy National Red Wine Day!
Today we’re celebrating National Red Wine Day; deep ruby red wines with tones of amber and brown that hint to the changing colors of fall, which is now just around the corner.
Red wines are bold, flavorful and perfect to pair with just about everything: salad, steak and even dessert. Whatever your preference, there is a red wine for you – sweet, dry or somewhere in between.
Cricova Wine Cellar
Moldova, situated between Romania and Ukraine, is home to the second largest wine cellar in the world named Cricova! The country is molded by the Black Sea basin with vast plains, flowing rivers, low hills and plenty of sunny days, all perfect for grape cultivation which has occurred here for thousands of years.
Wine is the largest economic product of the country, and it is even the seventh biggest export of wine in the world! The site was originally used to mine limestone in the 15th century, but has since been transformed into a cellar so large it even has its own streets, with names corresponding to the type of wine in that tunnel.
It also holds warehouses, tasting rooms and more all underground.
The cellar is so large you can tour it via electric trains similar to golf carts. Walking through this cellar is quite a task as it extends more than 75 miles worth of underground wine storage – you may want to use a map to avoid getting lost!

You can now purchase these incredible wines throughout the United States, so be sure to pick up a bottle of our Cricova Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon today to celebrate, and enjoy some of the finest wine Moldova has to offer!
